Abstract
The Flight Activities Officer position in Mission Control in Houston is supported by a team of flight controllers including the Timeline position staffed by the author for the first space shuttle flight. To prepare for flight duties, the author participated in simulations during 1980 with the STS-1 Ascent Flight Control team led by Flight Director Neil Hutchinson and the crew of John Young and Robert Crippen. She continued work on contingency cases (including loss of the flash evaporator system and the Freon loops) under the direction of Tommy Holloway and prepared the first timelines for STS-3, the third space shuttle flight. Recognized as an outstanding employee, Dyson was tapped by the NASA Speakers Bureau to share her passion for space with local audiences. She had the opportunity to fly on the Goodyear Blimp, and her husband and two other flight controllers began work on a LongEZ airplane in their garage.
