Current Guidelines and Recommendations for Thrombolysis Use in Pulmonary Embolism

  • Chapter
Thrombolysis in Pulmonary Embolism

Abstract

Currently, guidelines and recommendations are important tools to help physicians related with acute pulmonary embolism patient care to weigh the benefits and risks of anticoagulation and specifically, thrombolytic agents use. Guidelines and recommendations should be helpful in every day clinical decision-making to improve acute patient care. In the last years, the European Society of Cardiology, the American Heart Association, and the American College of Chest Physicians brought together leading experts in pulmonary embolism, stratification, diagnosis, and treatment. This chapter will be focusing on the guidelines and recommendations on pulmonary embolism and thrombolysis coming from the most important cardiology societies and experts in America and Europe. A brief overview on methodology and recommendations level, as well as, evidence level will be present. In addition, a fast-track analysis comparing thrombolytic regimens in terms of efficacy and safety will be available. Although, all of these guidelines and recommendations are available online, in this chapter the readers will have a quick and easy access.
