Introduction to Shape Memory Alloy Actuators

  • Chapter
Shape Memory Alloy Valves

Abstract

The focus of this chapter is laid on the actuating parameters of shape memory alloys. The explanation of the differences between thermal and electric applications of shape memory actuators is guided by dynamic and mechanic aspects. Other major topics focus the fatigue behavior, especially the fatigue-provoking parameters, and the possible designs of shape memory alloy actuators which can be used in valve applications.
