Handbook of Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis

Abstract

Psoriasis can affect health-related quality of life (HRQoL) to an extent similar to the effects of other severe chronic diseases such as depression, myocardial infarction, cancer, or hypertension [1]. The visible nature of psoriasis can be particularly disabling [2], with evidence of stigma, lowered self-image, depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation [3] even in mild psoriasis [1]. Psychological impairment has been observed in social settings and in the workplace [4, 5].
