Abstract
Angle-closure glaucomas encompass an array of anatomic abnormalities that may lead to increased intraocular pressure (IOP) and subsequent glaucomatous visual field loss. Laser iridotomy procedures are often helpful, but may not always address the underlying anatomic abnormality. Laser iridoplasty may be indicated for angle-closure glaucomas related to plateau iris syndrome, but this procedure also does not address the underlying anatomic abnormality consisting of high ciliary body insertion. Endocycloplasty (ECPL) is a novel technique that employs standard Endocyclophotocoagulation (ECP) equipment to target the posterior aspect of the ciliary body in order to induce shrinking and anterior chamber angle opening. Preliminary efficacy and safety results with this technique are encouraging.
