Abstract
In this chapter I describe parent coaching with dyads with an ambivalent/resistant attachment and parents with a preoccupied state of mind. First, I describe characteristics of ambivalent/resistant attachment. Second, I describe parenting behaviors associated with ambivalent/resistant attachment. Third, I describe relevant research on ambivalent/resistant attachment. Fourth, I describe characteristics of preoccupied state of mind. Fifth, I provide clinical observations and recommendations for coaching parents in ambivalent/resistant attachment and parents with preoccupied state of mind.
As you move in, I move away; as I move away, you move in…No matter where I move in relation to you, I cannot get comfortable.
