Abstract
Before details of the empirical research approach and methods are presented in Chap. 5, it is important to discuss the underlying philosophical assumptions that have consciously and unconsciously guided this research. Hence, the aim of this chapter is to discuss relevant literature concerning research philosophy and the philosophical assumptions adopted by the author. Philosophical discussions concerning mixed methods are not part of this chapter, but will be reviewed in Chap. 5.
