Abstract

The aim of this chapter is to outline the functions of an asset management information system and to consider issues relating to the use, resourcing, and operation of the system. Outcomes After reading this chapter you will know the main applications for which an asset management information system is programmed and the type of coding systems which are used to identify equipment, locations, and activities. You will be aware of the need for adequate resources to maintain the system and for user training in its use. You will see the structure of the data flows and be aware of the role of the system in the on-going management of current tasks.
