Abstract
The atypical sexual offenders treating in this chapter are the female paedophiliacs, the sexual offenders with intellectual disabilities and the sexual abusers in a context of religion.
The first paragraph concerns the sexual abuse perpetrated by women. Female paedophilia is an uncomfortable phenomenon disrupting rational, social, cultural and emotional certainties. Female paedophilia represents a sort of “taboo of taboos” just because women, in addition to violating the incest taboo, violate an even more serious taboo—the unfinished and disowned maternity. Hence, this phenomenon is still considered a rare clinical manifestation.
Many people with intellectual disabilities (ID) may express their sexual needs in an inappropriate manner. However, only a small percentage of these become a sexual offender. The goal of this work is to consider how to perform a scrupulous differential diagnosis to reveal if sexual offending is caused by deviant sexual urges and fantasies, or by other factors.
Finally, sexual abuse represents the drowned world of the contexts of religion and spirituality. In particular, the phenomena of violence and sexual abuse cross the main religions and cultures.
