Abstract
This chapter focuses on the material distribution of creativity and argues that creativity is not only a psychological process inside the head but takes the form of concrete, physical activity. We are born into a world of objects, of things that, in their generation and use, acquire a social and cultural life and are indispensable for future creation. However, what exists in the material world is not often easily transformed by creators; on the contrary, it can put up its own resistance to the intentions of creative people or groups. The chapter ends with discussion of how creative agency, as an emergent phenomenon, is constructed in the encounter between person and the materiality of the world.
