Abstract

The book was set out to explore the ways to increase societal resilience in a complex city system against disasters by focusing on the transportation system of London. This chapter sets the background shortly and introduces the problems. Moreover, it outlines aims and objectives of the research. Finally, it provides a road map for the rest of the book.

London has always been a vast ocean in which survival is not certain.
