Abstract
Solving a nonlinear equation in one variable means: given a continuous function f on the interval [a, b], we wish to find a value \( {s} \in [a, b]\) such that f(s) = 0. Such a value s is called a zero or root of the function f or a solution of the equation f(x) = 0.
