Abstract
After providing the background regarding the problem domains of this research in the preceding three chapters, this chapter sets out the foundations for defining the development framework of the system under study. In particular, this chapter is divided into five main sections. Section 5.2 explores the theoretical foundations for the spatial decision-making process and critically reviews the existing tools provided to support this process, i.e. DSS, GIS, SDSS and PSS. Inherently, decision making is strongly associated with multi-criteria decision methods (MCDM) which are examined in Sect. 5.3.
