Oncoplastic Breast Surgery

Abstract

Breast-conserving surgery (BCT) results in improved quality of life and enhanced self-esteem in women undergoing surgical treatment for breast cancer (Hopwood, Fletcher et al. 2001). The assessment of cosmetic outcome in breast surgery is especially pertinent, as patient satisfaction is a predominant factor in determining quality of life alongside oncologic outcome. Until today, none of the prospective randomized trials conducted in BCT have been able to assess cosmetic outcome on account of deficient reproducible, accurate and userfriendly scales.
