Abstract
This project is a new performing art center for the Portuguese city of Guimarães, a European Capital of Culture in 2012. once designated by the EU, a Capital of Culture city is given a period of one year to showcase its cultural life and development. A number of European cities have used this program to transform their cultural base and, in doing so, the way in which they are viewed internationally. With the aim of arousing citizens’ interest and facilitating the long-term cultural development of the city, projects are undertaken to restore local heritage and to create new facilities to generate steady cultural growth and flourishing cultural tourism.
