Abstract
Singers live with the feelings of the vibration of their own voices on an everyday basis and it is easy for them to embrace the concept that energy or vibration is basic to everything that exists. Eastern and Western cultures describe it in different ways. Biologists see energy as part of human life such as breath and pulse, physicists as quantum particles, and spiritual traditions speak of prana, chi (Qi) and light. The importance of energy is recognized in medicine and various health professions by the use of therapeutic and diagnostic tools such as ultrasound, electric pulse, shock wave therapy, and magnetic resonance imaging to name a few (See Oschman, 2000). In the field of complementary and alternative medicine energy healing comes in many forms: from hands-on work, natural energies like crystals and magnets, acupuncture, life force or chi, to radionics and mind. These are being used to great effect—some prominent examples being: various forms of kinesiology such as Edu-K™, EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique™) and Quantum Touch™ (See Gordon (2006), Feinstein and Eden (2005), and Integrative Quantum Medicine™ (Mita, taoenergy.com). These and other therapies will be discussed more fully in Chapter 11 on Vocal Health.
