Zusammenfassung

Antiepileptika (synonym Antikonvulsiva) sind Neuro-Psychopharmaka zur symptomatischen Behandlung der verschiedenen Epilepsieformen, die unter Umständen lebenslang eingenommen werden müssen. Die Ziele der Behandlung von epileptischen Patienten mit Antiepileptika sind Anfallsfreiheit und möglichst wenige unerwünschte Arzneimittelwirkungen (UAWs) der medikamentösen Therapie. Ein ideales Antiepileptikum erhöht die Krampfschwelle, ohne die normale motorische Erregbarkeit zu beeinflussen. Antiepileptika heilen die Epilepsie nicht, können aber zu einer weitgehenden oder völligen Aufhebung der klinischen Symptomatik führen und dem Patienten ein normales Leben ermöglichen.
