Abstract
A walk through the Old General Hospital in Vienna is like taking a trip through over two hundred years of the history of Viennese medicine. Monuments, busts and memorial plaques in the courtyards of this former “city of the sick” recall great medical achievements that shook the foundations of the established medical world-view and, in fact, altered the world of medicine.
