Abstract
We keep the notation of the preceding chapter, restricting attention now to an algebraic number field k, with ring of integers O = O k . The set of all primes (equivalence classes of valuations) of k is denoted V k , the finite subset of ‘infinite primes’ (archimedean valuations) is V∞, and V k \V∞ = V f ; so V f may be identified with the set of non-zero prime ideals of O. For each υ ∈ V k the υ-completion of k is denoted kυ.
