Zusammenfassung
Die Hauptaufgabe des Propellers (Luftschraube) besteht darin, die zugeführte Motorleistung (Kolbenmotor oder Gasturbine) in Vortriebsleistung umzuwandeln. Daneben benützt man den Propeller auch als aerodynamische Bremse, insbesondere zur Verkürzung der Landestrecke.
