Abstract
The general safety profile of ibuprofen involves assessment of the pharmacokinetic properties of the drug that influence safety, including variations of these properties in inflammatory diseases, genetic variants of cytochromes P450 and drug–disease interactions. The safety profile of ibuprofen is considered from evidence at prescription level and OTC dosages in epidemiological and clinical trial studies in comparison with established NSAIDs, analgesics and the coxibs. Risks of interactions of ibuprofen with herbal preparations and Chinese Traditional Medicines are considered. The risks of adverse events from ibuprofen are assessed for children and infants.
