Abstract

A global assessment of adverse reactions and human toxicity is reviewed. The evidence for the original approval in the UK and USA of ibuprofen for OTC sale is evaluated. Cases of poisoning are reviewed with evidence showing the low risks of toxic reactions from ibuprofen. The impact of limiting pack sizes of analgesics on their toxicity is evaluated along with concerns about misuse of analgesics.
