Abstract

Ibuprofen was first introduced in 1969 (in the UK) and the subsequent development of the prescription drug for treatment of arthritic, musculo-skeletal and other painful conditions . It is now amongst the leading non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) sold worldwide. Following the early success and proof of safety, ibuprofen was the first of the NSAIDs to be introduced for over-the-counter (OTC) non-prescription sale for pain relief.
