Abstract
This chapter summarizes evidence for tree physiological traits at high elevation. The role of water, carbon and nutrient relations is discussed in a comparative manner. Since this field had been treated in previous reviews for the northern cool-temperate zone, the chapter compiles main trends and puts emphasis on other bioclimatic regions.
