Abstract
Telemedicine has constantly been evolving and expanding over the last 20 years, and Covid has rapidly accelerated this process. Three main types have emerged—store and forward/asynchronous, live-video, and remote patient monitoring—with remote monitoring the latest to emerge and currently is rapidly evolving. The value of telemedicine is critical for all healthcare stakeholders and must be defined, especially in cardiology, where telemedicine can be broadly applied. There are two ways to view telemedicine’s value for cardiovascular care—by location and by stakeholder. Both views have a unique view of telemedicine value, and both will benefit from widespread adoption. Financial modeling must be clearly defined to cover all types and vantage-points of telemedicine to increase its value and subsequent adoption. The role of value for payers is crucial at this moment in telemedicine’s evolution.
