Abstract
Free tissue transfer is a complex surgery that involves multiple steps, all of which are critical for a successful outcome. In the previous chapters, we discussed various concepts of flap design and selection as well as postoperative monitoring (see Chaps. 2 and 3). The dissection of the recipient vessels is an important step to ensure atraumatic vascular inflow and outflow to the flap. Exposure of recipient vessels in the extremity is dependent on safe dissection as injury to these vessels can compromise vascular supply to the distal extremity.
