Abstract
The adapted 15-item version of the Spiritual Needs Questionnaire for adolescents with chronic states or long-lasting treatments (SpNQ-Ad) has a similar structure to the SpNQ-20 for adults. The factors Religious needs and Inner Peace needs were retained, while, due to the shortening process, the formerly separate topics of existential and giving needs were condensed into one factor termed Existential/Giving needs. With the introduction of three new items with a new topic, an additional factor termed needs for Attention/Positive Confirmation emerged, which showed the highest scores. The internal consistency of these four factors is good (ranging from Cronbach’s alpha 0.72 to 0.89), and the correlations with external measures such as life satisfaction, symptom burden and religious practices are sound from a theoretical point of view. The standardized SpNQ-Ad can thus be used in future studies with adolescents.
