Abstract
To provide dialysis patients with the highest quality of care, each dialysis team must develop a Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAPI) program to ensure ongoing quality. Quality metric goals can be set by clinical practice guidelines, regulatory and accreditation bodies, and, finally, the care team. In this chapter, we discuss what is needed to establish a QAPI program, briefly review the current regulations that drive the metrics, discuss methods on how to continuously monitor quality metrics, and provide a step-by-step guide on how to start, measure, and sustain a quality improvement project.
