Abstract

The chapter is based on the comparison of the results of studies provided by V.D. Zinserling and his collaborators in 30th–50th of the XX century and modern research of V.V. Svistunov and V.A. Zinserling in XXI century, partly with the use of PCR analyses. The results of both studies appeared to be similar, but in discordance with the so-called classical teaching of Carl Rokitansky, which was never formulated by himself or proved on practical materials by anybody later, but still appearing in textbooks. New variants of “gray hepatization” are distinguished. The presented clinical and pathological data postulate the necessity to distinguish among community-acquired pneumonias “croupous” as a distinct entity. One has to differentiate it with focal pneumonia. Critical analysis of the modern literature supports our original views. Part of the important data is presented in form of a table; text is illustrated by ten images.
