Abstract
Many of the principles developed under the theories of operant conditioning and applied behavior analysis were later applied to functional assessment. This chapter covers the basic concepts of operational definitions, time sampling, frequency counts, inter-rater reliability, observer drift, and related principles. How these concepts have been applied in the functional assessment literature, are also covered.
