Abstract
In order to land a great job, one has to know what defines a great job for that individual. Analyzing the factors that are important to the individual is the first step for finding the right position. Not every academic job is the same. Critically analyzing the position involves investigating the soft factors such as career guidance, mentorship, and protected time for academic pursuits. The perfect job may not continue to be the perfect job, and it is prudent to remember to advocate for oneself and regularly meet with the chairperson for guidance.
