Abstract

The larynx and trachea are susceptible to a variety of congenital and acquired lesions that may compromise the airway, voice, and ability to swallow safely. Congenital lesions are typically benign, cystic and cause airway compromise requiring prompt diagnosis and treatment. Acquired lesions are commonly caused by voice overuse, local trauma, or exposure to infectious agents. Malignancies are fortunately very rare occurrences in children but must be considered in the differential diagnosis.

This chapter will cover a variety of benign and malignant lesions of the larynx and trachea for which pathological specimens can be obtained.
