Abstract

Evaluation of progressive retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thinning and neuroretinal rim loss is important to inform the risk of visual field progression and guide intraocular pressure lowering therapy decision making in patients with glaucoma. While optical coherence tomography (OCT) provides objective and reproducible measurements of retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness, ganglion cell inner plexiform layer (GCIPL) thickness, and neuroretinal rim dimensions, the application of OCT for progression analysis is not straightforward. This chapter illustrates with case examples the different forms of progression analysis in OCT and how OCT assists early detection of disease deterioration in glaucoma.
