Abstract

The asymmetric interactions of various threats with inclined plates, either static or moving, are discussed in this chapter. The resulting asymmetric forces can enhance the defeat mechanisms to these threats through their deflection, erosion or shattering. Most advanced armor designs, such as the explosive reactive armor (ERA) concept, are based on these asymmetric interactions. The basic defeat mechanisms behind these interactions are explored through 3D numerical simulations, which are shown to be very useful for the optimal design of armor systems.
