Abstract

Lisfranc injuries are injuries to the tarsometatarsal joint complex. There are many variations of injuries, including fractures to the base of the metatarsals, intercuneiform ligament disruptions and cuneiform fractures, and purely ligamentous injury dislocations. As this injury can vary in how it presents, a thorough physical exam, correctly diagnosing the injury with judicious review of imaging, and selecting an appropriate treatment plan are crucial to successful outcomes. Treatment can fail due to improper diagnosis, poor surgical techniques, and improper surgical implants, among other reasons. This chapter reviews common mistakes that can lead to the failed treatment of a Lisfranc injury. We offer surgical tips and present some of our own cases, showing successful outcomes in patients who have previously failed Lisfranc treatment.
