Abstract
This chapter presents the insightful and detailed analysis of Jeff’s case, a middle-aged team leader at a large organisation in England. The analysis identifies ‘ambivalent relationships’ as a source of conflict. It highlights Jeff’s confusion regarding his expectations and perceptions about his relationship with Martin, and explores the problems arising out of the changing power relations between them. Jeff’s understanding of conflict as a ‘cold war’ is explicated and mediation as safe space for ‘professional learning’ is highlighted. The analysis explores mediation as a process that addresses destructive cognitive processes resulting in inner change.
