Abstract

Payment for medical care has moved from a fee for service model, to a capitated managed care model, to a model that is based on the value of services provided. This chapter will discuss the history of payment models for medical services. The chapter will conclude with a discussion of MIPS and MACRA and the appropriate use of the electronic health record.
