Abstract

The precise reconstruction of the energy of electrons and photons is a key ingredient for many physics measurement, such as the accurate determination of the Higgs and W boson masses. The photon and electron energy measurement by the EM calorimeter is limited by several effects. In particular the finite dimension of the cluster and the presence of inactive material upstream of and inside the calorimeter worsen the energy reconstruction performance. Figure 7.1 illustrates the four main components that affect the linearity and the resolution of the final energy measurement
