Abstract

Laser ablation is a safe and effective technique for the treatment of parathyroid diseases, including primary and secondary hyperparathyroidism. It can effectively reduce the size of enlarged parathyroid gland, decrease serum parathyroid hormone and calcium levels, and relieve high serum parathyroid hormone-related symptoms. Although surgery is still the gold-standard treatment for hyperparathyroidism, laser ablation provides an alternative for patients with parathyroid diseases who were previously deemed inoperable or refuse surgery.
