Abstract
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) was the first evidence-based treatment for suicidal adults diagnosed with borderline personality disorder. It has since been adapted for multi-problem youth with various mental and medical disorders. While DBT originated as an outpatient treatment, it has since been implemented in inpatient, residential, forensic, school, and medical settings. This chapter provides an overview of the theories, modes, and functions of adolescent DBT with a special emphasis on the role of families in treatment, and finally a review of the research studies and outcomes with this age group.
