Abstract

The presented paper summarises the current situation connected to the introduction of the unprecedented directive of the European Union connected to the data security, General Data Protection Regulation. It will dramatically influence data security in companies and must be taken into consideration by both ICT and non ICT management. The research was conducted into the awareness of the situation in the Czech Republic. There has been no previous research into this area, therefore, there is an urgent need to look at the possible impact of the GDPR regulation on management issues in companies. The research shows that the managers are aware of the need to implement the directive, however, the reason is merely the penalty for not following the standard. The managers do not accept the fact that this directive is necessary because they think the current data protection is sufficient. And finally, the companies see the new directive as a future cost as new positions or even departments will have to be introduced to comply with the regulation.
