Abstract

This concluding chapter correlates the findings in the book with three larger historiographies and suggests various possibilities for future examination. The three contexts discussed here are nineteenth-century tropical development, Africa and European empires in global history, and multiple region-based globalisations, out of whose interactions emerged the modern global economy.
