Abstract

Uveitis is relatively common following blunt and penetrating or perforating injuries to the globe. The spectrum of uveitis ranges from a mild anterior uveitis following blunt trauma to severe inflammation in cases of post-traumatic endophthalmitis. In many cases of severe trauma, the uveitis is but one component of multiple intraocular injuries that may include penetrating or perforating wounds, hyphema, shallow anterior chamber, iris prolapse, lens disruption, as well as other posterior segment pathology. Therapy is based upon the etiology of the uveitis, but in the setting of trauma, it may require modification of typical treatment approaches used in cases without globe trauma.
