Abstract
The three major salivary glands (parotid, sublingual, and submandibular) can be examined at autopsy during dissection of the neck to evaluate the presence of developmental anomalies or cytomegalovirus infection. This chapter focuses on the development and histology of the submandibular gland, which is easier to dissect at autopsy than the other two glands.
