Abstract

Evaluation of the fetal and neonatal pancreas, particularly its endocrine component, requires familiarity with the normal changes that the stromal, exocrine, and endocrine components undergo throughout gestation. The unique features of the endocrine tissue of the fetal and neonatal pancreas must be considered before drawing conclusions as to their possible causative role in either presumed or clinically established hyperinsulinism.
