Abstract
At the end of 2002, President Thór Vilhjálmsson did not seek renomination. The competent Icelandic ministry proposed Kristinn F. Árnason, a career diplomat, as his replacement. However, the Icelandic Government started to have second thoughts and at the end of the day Thorgeir Örlygsson was nominated and appointed.
