Abstract

Pain is multidimensional by nature, making any kind of pain classification a great challenge. In its current edition, the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) (ICD-10: Federal Ministry of Health 1994; World Health Organization 1991, 2007) comes with a set of substantial problems (Hildebrandt and Pfingsten 1993; Hildebrandt et al. 1992; Klinger et al. 1992).
