Résumé

La population âgée peut être schématiquement répartie en trois classes. Les sujets robustes, les sujets dépendants et malades, et les sujets fragiles. Le concept de fragilité est un domaine de recherche récent et en pleine expansion. Il permet de comprendre et de prévenir le risque particulièrement élevé d’entrée dans la dépendance, d’entrée en institution, de co-morbidités et de mortalité que présentent certains sujets âgés lorsqu’ils sont confrontés à un stress. Identifier un syndrome de fragilité chez un sujet âgé permet de prédire une évolution péjorative.
