Résumé
Les parents tentent généralement d’aider au mieux leur adolescent atteint d’un cancer, amenant au premier plan la question de leur capacité à percevoir les besoins et les diffi cultés de celui-ci. En effet, c’est entre autres en se basant sur cette perception que le parent pourra d’une part évaluer la situation de son enfant, et d’autre part lui proposer de l’aide ou en rechercher pour lui. Quelles que soient les capacités physiques, cognitives et affectives de l’adolescent à exprimer directement ses diffi cultés, cette perception reste un élément fondamental pour défi nir la manière dont les parents vont appréhender son état. Comment les parents perçoivent-ils les diffi cultés de leur enfant? Quels sont les mécanismes en jeu? C’est ce que nous allons explorer à travers ce chapitre, en nous penchant d’abord sur le concept de perception, avant de faire le tour des études déjà réalisées sur ce sujet, et de leurs résultats.
