Résumé
L’insuffisance respiratoire (IR) peut se définir comme une incapacité du poumon à assurer une hématose correcte. On peut distinguer les IR par défaillance de la pompe ventilatoire avec hypercapnie (hypoventilation alvéolaire), et les IR par défaillance du poumon proprement dit avec hypoxémie (altération du rapport ventilation/perfusion). Ces deux types de défaillances peuvent se rencontrer au cours de l’évolution des accidents vasculaires cérébraux (AVC) et sont responsables de 30 % des décès.
